The diet. The hCG method is not a diet method, it is a method to free fat from fat cells. The calories will be supplied by the fat cells, and as little as possible by the corresponding "diet". To trigger the body to use hCG for freeing stored fat it must be made clear to body-processes that external supply of calories by eating is switched off. That should be the message of the hCG diet: From now on you will not get external calories.
A typical difference between the common diets of diet-methods and the "hCG diet" is that the first are diets-of-essentials (and have to be rated as such) while the "hCG-diet" is emphatically a diet-of-calorie-deficiency.
